Honors Physics - Unit 4
Work and Energy
This unit focuses on the ideas of work and energy. We will learn what physicists mean by “work.” and how work changes the energy of an object though the Work-Energy Theorem we will use the Law of Conservation of Energy to show how energy is always conserved in a system but can change forms.
BY THE END OF THIS UNIT, you should be able to:
define work and energy
calculate an object’s kinetic and/or potential energy.
use the work energy theorem to solve problems and understand the connection between work and kinetic energy.
Use the Law of Conservation of Energy to solve problems in which energy is conserved but changes form.
understand how to use components in the x- and y-direction to calculate forces on an inclined plane
