Unit 5: Electronic Structure
Objectives:
I know what electromagnetic radiation is and I can calculate with the properties wavelength, frequency, and energy.
I know the different types of electromagnetic radiation in the spectrum.
I know how electrons can produce light and can explain this process with the Bohr atomic model.
I know the orbital organization of the quantum mechanical model.
I know how electrons are organized within orbitals (Aufbau principle, Pauli’s exclusion principle, Hund’s rule)
I know that the electron organization shapes the periodic table.
I know what Coulombic forces are and what factors can change them.
I know that the electron organization determines the behavior of elements and I can describe this with the terms atomic size, metallic character, ionization energy, and electronegativity.
