Unit 11: Gases
Objectives:
I know how a gas differs from a solid and liquid.
I know how the kinetic molecular theory describes gas particles.
I know the four parameters used to describe gas samples, their symbols, and their units (P, T, V, n).
I know the four simple gas laws (Boyle’s, Charles’, Gay-Lussac’s, and Avogadro’s) and can describe what they state and can calculate gas law problems that require them.
I know how to solve gas law problems with two parameter changes (either though consecutive gas law applications or with the combined gas law).
I know the Ideal Gas law and can calculate gas law problems with it.
I know that gas laws only work if the temperature is stated in Kelvin. I can convert degree Celsius to Kelvin and back.
Resources:
Objectives 1 & 2
I know what to do and what not to do in a laboratory.
I know the safety equipment in the lab and its location.
Objectives 3, 4, & 5
I know the meaning of the GHS symbols.
I know how to read or construct a fire diamond.
I know how to retrieve more detailed information about chemicals from the internet.
