Cell Transport & Microscopy
As we move through this week, we’ll differentiate the ways in which molecules, ions, and substrates move in and out of a cell, then jump into your microscopy lab.
BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:
define all terms from the previous 8 weeks,
describe the composition of a phospholipid bilayer,
differentiate between passive and active transport,
compare simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, and osmoregulation,
compare what occurs to cells in isotonic, hypertonic, and hypertonic solutions, and
review the essential differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells while differentiating the organelles within these cells.
Week 8 - Biology
Your Week Ahead
Day 1: Cell Transport Introduction
We’ll start with a conversation surround an analysis of test 1. We'll continue class with reviewing last week’s content and journal 4 while you begin notes on cell transport.
After that, we’ll jump into a brief discussion to review content.
AFTER CLASS, study for your quiz covering: chemistry of life, properties of water, and biological macromolecules.
No Journal this week.
Day 2: Quiz 3 & Cellular Organization
We’ll start class with your quiz 3. Good luck! I’m afraid that students are not checking the website as frequently as they should. If you’re reading this sentence, please write the word “leopard” next to your name when you take the quiz. Don’t talk to others about this (if I hear someone say to write leopard in a class, then that class will not get the points). Those that do will get a bonus point on the quiz, this is just to see if people are checking the website as they should.
You’ll see what you remember from last week then jump into an activity describing the ways in which cells are organized among organisms.
You will then differentiate the 6 groups of living organisms to prepare for your microscope lab.
Day 3: Microscopy Introduction & Significant Figures Reassess (for those that choose)
It’s time to start your multi-day microscope lab!
If you wish to reassess the significant figures portion of your last test, you may do so during this time.
After class, begin preparing for your test.
IMPORTANT DATES
Quiz 3 on Tuesday/Wednesday
Test 2 will be in roughly 2 weeks (10/21 or 10/22) covering chemistry of life, the emergent properties of water, and biological macromolecules.
Did you…?
… study finish the week 8 content from this week?
… begin a study plan for your test coming up?
… review the big ideas of this week in your journal?
