An Introduction into Climate Change

This week will be dedicated to connecting evolutionary concepts to climate change. We’ll spend much more time in the coming weeks discussing the details of climate change; this week is more about understanding the fundamentals.

BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:

  • define all terms from the previous weeks,

  • define evolution and climate change,

  • compare the five mechanisms of evolution,

  • describe misconceptions associated with climate change, and

  • discuss how evolution and climate change are interconnected.

Week 30 - Biology

Your Week Ahead

Day 1: Finishing Racing Extinction

  1. We’ll give you first few minutes to take a quiz of your choosing, then discuss the coevolution paper. We’ll also have a quick discussion reminding you of the honor code during these quizzes and paper.

    1. Rough draft deadline is Monday, April 14th

    2. Final deadline is Monday, April 28th!

  2. After that discussion, we’ll finish the Racing Extinction video and review key elements.

  3. AFTER CLASS, have your topic chosen if you haven’t already done so. This should have been done last week. Also, study for quizzes!

If you were out of class during any point of the video, here’s the link to watch whatever you missed! You should have watched the entire video. If you are having issues watching, this National Geographic documentary (Racing Extincion) is also found on Hulu and Disney+.

Day 2: Evolution & Prisoner’s Dilemma

  1. We’ll use the day to discuss key elements surrounding evolution after people have the option for taking quizzes.

  2. AFTER CLASS, study and begin working on your paper!
