The Cell Cycle

This is your final week of new content for the first semester! We’ll spend this week discussing the fundamentals of the cell cycle and begin preparing for your final weeks of studying for your final exam.

BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:

  • describe what occurs in G1, S, & G2, and how to differentiate each,

  • describe the differences between B, C, & D periods in prokaryotes,

  • discuss how cancer cells relate to the cell cycle,

  • list the stages of a cell’s cycle in chronological order, including the three stages of interphase, the two stages of M phase, and the steps within mitosis (prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase), and

  • describe the phases of mitosis.

Week 16 - Biology

Your Week Ahead

Day 1: Cell Cycle

  1. We’ll set up the week, then jump into an activity learning more about the cell cycle. Use your week 15 material to help if you feel lost or confused about stages discussed before the break.

  2. AFTER CLASS, study for your quiz!

  3. Also after class, complete journal 7 to show it to me next week. You were supposed to complete journal 6 in week 12 but I forgot to check it. Make sure that both of those are complete by next week!

Day 3: Photosynthesis/Respiration Quiz & Continuing Activity

  1. We’ll begin with you taking your quiz on filling in the tables we learned surrounding photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Afterwards, you will finish your interphase activity that we began last class and jump into a friendly competition if we have time!

  2. After class, study for your drawing test!

Day 2: Somatic Cell Lab

  1. You will spend the day jumping into a lab learning more about the cell cycle.

  2. After class, study for your quiz next class!

IMPORTANT DATES

Quiz this Day 3 on the photosynthesis/respiration tables!

Test next Monday with drawing the phases of photosynthesis/respiration!

Did you…?

  • … finish your interphase activity from week 15?

  • … complete your somatic cell lab from week 16? Stop at 16.8.

  • … finish journals 6 and 7?

  • … prepare for your drawing test next Monday (Week 17)?
